Raising Cybersecurity Awareness Among Healthcare Providers
With the rise of digital health services such as telehealth and remote monitoring apps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cybersecurity has become an important consideration for healthcare organizations. In fact, cybersecurity is top of mind among IT practitioner leaders in healthcare in the United States, according to recent HIMSS Market Intelligence research, sponsored by Auth0, on cybersecurity awareness in a hospital or health system setting.
While 3 in 4 IT leaders surveyed were concerned about the possibility of a security breach, 7 in 10 only saw a budget increase of up to 20%. Even with those numbers, the majority of cybersecurity budgets is still being spent on maintaining existing infrastructure, rather than on staff training or on a disaster recovery plan. This research clearly shows that, although cybersecurity is a serious consideration for healthcare organizations, IT leaders have concerns about whether their organization is equipped to face future threats.
